Is it rude to not go to a book club if you do not want to read the book?

My friend hosts a book club and this months book is the second Anne of Green Gables but I didn't even like the first so I am not to excited to read the second, would it be rude to just not go because I don't want to read the book or should I read it and go for my friend? Please help I don't want her to be mad at me and I don't want to lie either. Thanks! Is it rude to not go to a book club if you do not want to read the book?
I always encourage reading anything and everything, but it's entirely up to you. Would your friend be offended if you weren't there? Maybe you should ask her and base your decision on her response.

It certainly won't hurt you to read it! It might even be better than the one you didn't like!
How does the club choose books? If you take turns, then it would be rude not to go, especially since someone is trying to share something that they enjoy. It also means there may be hard feelings because it appears that you're only in it to take what you want.

Besides, you might end up liking the book, you never know.Is it rude to not go to a book club if you do not want to read the book?
In my opinion, there is nothing more horrible than having to read a book that you have no interest in. Now, friendship occasionally means having to sacrifice, but if your friend is hosting a book club, then she (hopefully) is doing it simply for the joy of reading. So no, I don't believe it would be rude if you didn't attend. I would be honest with her about it. If she is a good friend, she'll understand.
Just tell her you don't want to read the book. If she understands, well, problem solved. If she gets all upset, you could do one of two things. You could read the book anyway. Or you could just not, and she will get over it. If a book club is going to come in the way of a friendship permanently then it probably wasn't a real friendship to start with. But be nice when you tell her, and explain your reasoning for not wanting to read the book. Also tell her you enjoy her book club very much and are going to miss attending that month, but you really don't want to read the book.Is it rude to not go to a book club if you do not want to read the book?
You do NOT have to go!!! It's your right. Would you rather be bored to death reading a dumb book? no. Tell your friend nicley that.....

1. You have plans and can't go on the days of the club

2. Say that you already read the book and don't like it very much

3. Tell her you read the book, or you don't like it and ask if she can change it

Good luck
