I was thinking of joining one of those book clubs , u know were u get sum cheap then u have to buy 4 in one yr

i dont know if its any good does anyone know of any good ones or if they arnt a scamI was thinking of joining one of those book clubs , u know were u get sum cheap then u have to buy 4 in one yr
BCA (world books) is reputable and reliable...they are owned by W.H.Smith. I joined them but cancelled after having met my committment as there wasn't a huge choice of books that I would choose.

I had no problem with them tho'....just be sure to get your orders in on time.
If you read quite a lot, and can afford slightly cheaper than the shops books, then most are ok. Im in BCA and they have some good offers. As long as you get your order or non order in in time its okI was thinking of joining one of those book clubs , u know were u get sum cheap then u have to buy 4 in one yr
I use world books and they have reasonable priced books that come under the 4 for a year - what I usually do then is cancel my subscription and start all over again lol so I get more cheap books - they either haven't cottoned on or they allow it to happen but I have been a happy customer for about 10 years now
don't.

apart from the first offers they entice you with they aren't worth joining.

we joined one and struggled to buy the 4 in a year - some of the offers they have aren't included in the 4 in a year deal so you can come unstuck.I was thinking of joining one of those book clubs , u know were u get sum cheap then u have to buy 4 in one yr
Just watch it i joined Book Club,,,Swindon,,and had a job ,,,getting of it,,,,,,go to the Library,,,you can order Books from another library ,,,,,And its free,,,,,
i once joined a book club and i ended up owing money for books i didn't want and had no interest in reading,, and they wouldn't let me cancel my subscription so be cautious
no no no dont join a book club, get a book people leaflet probably from library or somewhere, it is free just order books when you want

xxx vici

i think you can just type book people .co.uk and it will come on site

and the books are really cheap too
I personally found it cheaper in the long run to buy books from amazon and play.com to be honest.
They aren't a scam, just be wary of joining a "specialist" one. If you want to join a "Swindon" based one, the best is World Books, as they give you access to all the other clubs that come under the company's "umbrella".

The Reader's Union ones are all specialist ones, and you can struggle finding the required 4 books in the year.

My membership of one of the "Swindon" clubs has just been changed to VIP, as I've been a member for so long, and it means I do not have to return the slip, as I no longer have an editor's choice offered. (But you can now accept/reject online, so that should no longer be a problem.)

There are other alternatives out there though. Amazon are very competitive on their prices, The Book People, (as someone else has mentioned...they also visit work places regularly,) The Works, discount book shop can turn up some gems.

There are two other's, Waterstone's...most towns have at least one branch, regularly have 3 for 2 promotions, and other promotions, which are all very helpful.

And lastly, there is the "Love Reading" website, the books are discounted, and you can read preview chapters, with no commitment.

The only difference between the clubs and the alternaives I have mentioned is, the clubs don't ask for payment until you have received the goods, but there is the commitment to consider, all the other alternatives offer flexibility.

My honest opinion, the only book club I struggled with was a history one that I joined for my son's benefit, I struggled to find the required 4 books, but it WAS specialist. If you must join one, don't join a specialist one.
Don't do it. I joined a couple in the past but the ones which require you to buy four near to full price books aren't worth it; you'd be better off just buying the paperback editions in a book shop or online. Try to join one which doesn't have this requirement - a few don't.
I came out of that club (after 20 years!) 'cos their books kept on getting damaged in the post because they were badly wrapped.
I've been a member of the Fantasy %26amp; SF book club for years, which is now Books Direct. The good thing about them is that the newsletter gives you access to books you might not necessarily have known about, and new authors etc. Once you have met your initial commitment to a book club you don鈥檛 have to buy anything else.

I always cross reference the prices with Amazon and go with the cheapest, sometimes it鈥檚 one, sometimes it鈥檚 the other, it depends on what sort of deals they have going and whether you are prepared to buy in bulk 鈥?the more you buy from a book club the better the deal.

The only really bad thing about them is that every now and then they mess up, so I only order books I am prepared to wait for. Having said that, Harry Potter arrived on the day of release and we got it before the Amazon customers because Royal Mail had identified the Amazon books and separated them for a special delivery later in the day.

If you are prepared to meet the commitment for the first year, give it a try, you can always cancel it afterwards.
The only trouble with these clubs is that you have to buy so many books from each magazine issue they send out. The downside being they might not have any books you would want to read at the time.
