My friend and I are starting a book club. The first book we want to read has to be inspirational in some way, whether that be finding yourself, moving past obstacles, things like that. We do NOT want a classic or teenage book.What is a good inspirational book for a book club?

I'm going to recommend a teen book (sorry i'm not listening to you :P), but it is NOT your classic teen book. It is called the Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and I'm pretty sure you've heard of it at some point. It's about the Holocaust and a nine-year-old boy called Bruno. It's really sad, but there are a lot of themes that will keep you talking for weeks after you finish reading it. You should check it out.

Meh, tell me what type of games he likes... if he likes the new games, then I'd say no, but the old stuff, like for the NES and SNES, and 64, then maybeVideo game of the month- like book club for video games?
Personally I'd be highly wary of a service such as that. Unlike books, video games can be a very expensive mistake if you get a bad one. I can shrug off a bad book but a bad game is pretty infuriating when they cost upwards of $60.



A Gamefly subscription might be a decent compromise though. It's relatively cheap and he would be able to play basically anything he wants but on a game to game basis much like a club.Video game of the month- like book club for video games?

God help me, I never thought I'd do this, but I am going to suggest Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer. It's a young adult book, but teenage girls and grown women of all ages are going wild over it and the whole four-book saga.



It's worth reading just to find out what all the fuss is about, but it happens to be a very good read, mainly because there is a romantic hero that is just about perfect. Sane women everywhere are falling in love with this guy. Who is 17 or 100+ depending on how you count it, as he's a vampire. Well, that part attracts about half of the readers, too. There's also a certain amount of action/adventure to the second half of it.



It's also highly discussable, or at least the obsessed women posting at http://twilightmomsforums.freeforums.org鈥?/a> think so.
I'm a contemporary (interracial) African-American Romance author out of Kensington Publishing. My first novel 'Come With Me' deals with a hero Michael 'Majestic' Cloud Walker who is learning to accept his role as Native American Chieftan down in the mountains of North Carolina. The Heroine Jesse Bishop is a hardnosed business woman who has decided after a tragic event to change her environment and perhaps her heart. There are overtones of current event issues, a beautiful setting, and a full-figured woman with an attitude tamed by love with a host of other eccentric characters and lots of love and love making.

I've also written a second novel entitled 'If You Were Mine'.

Both books can be ordered on line and I would love it if you guys would read it for your group and perhaps you all could send me some book club questions on-line and I'll post your responses on my blog and send you copies.



Hope you consider the possibility of actually being able to contact the author directly. Wouldn't that be cool for you as host of the club.

The best place to start is your public library. My public library is always open to new suggestions from the public because it usually means bringing more people into the library. Talk to the librarian about starting a new book club. S/he--if open to the idea--will take care of the advertising and the sign-up sheets. You'll take care of picking the first book to be read and discussed.



If you belong to a church, there's another avenue for you. Using the youth minister for assistance, you could easily set up a book club.



Of course, you could go it alone. Put an ad in the newspaper and flyers where kids hang out. Then select the first book or have the group vote on the first book.

You could talk to the principal (or possibly the superintendent) about the possibility of the school, itself, purchasing some books for the book club. You could also go to your local library and ask them whether they would be willing to lend you a certain number of copies of whichever books you choose to help with your school book club. If the students have to buy or borrow their own books, it will probably limit the number of people who are willing to participate.



If it happens that the student has to borrow/buy the books themselves, you'll have to have a reading list available for them long before the first session begins to give them plenty of time to obtain a copy. You'll also have to pick readily available books - not obscure titles - and ones that are in paperback.



You may find various publishers are interested in giving you a discount to help your project. I would try contacting some of the larger ones like HarperCollins, Random House, Simon and Schuster and others.

The best way to do that is to let the kids know a few weeks in advance which book you will be selecting. This will give them time to rent it from a library or purchase is if it's not too costly. Or you could order them your self from a book company that gives special discounts to teacher's such s Scholastic.

My book club read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak last year, and it was a success! Everyone really liked it, and it does have the "questions to ask" section in the back of the book. It's about a German girl in the Holocaust, but even if the people in your book club aren't big on history I think they would still enjoy it. It's a book I'd recommend to anyone!

The Maze Runner-like the hunger games, except better. I really liked Beautiful CreAtures by kami garcia. My favorite book ever though is The Book Thief.
Delirium by Lauren Oliver was heart breaking.

The Help by Kathyrn Stockett was great and very important.
