I was going to buy a book from ebay and once I started reading descriptions I realized that there must be a difference sine people were describing the book as "not from a book club".What is the difference in a book bought at a bookstore and a book bought from a book club?
The text of both books will be the same. What will be different is the size of the books, and the dust jacket. Book club books are generally smaller in size than bookstore books, even though they have the same ISBN. They will also not have as fancy of a dust jacket; for example, if a bookstore book has embossed printing on the cover of the dust jacket, the book club book will not.
they just cost more from a storeWhat is the difference in a book bought at a bookstore and a book bought from a book club?
There is usually no difference if the Author, Title, Publisher, ISBN # and edition date are the same. You can get used books on Ebay...so they comment may have indicated that the Ebay book in question was in good condition. I work at a Barnes %26amp; Noble Bookstore, so our website has prices and availability. www.BN.com
They are more expensive at a store. I have belonged to a book club since I was 16 years old. You have to watch the prices however as you may pay less for the book but get stuck with a high shipping and handling and tax that brings the book up to more than you would have paid at a book store with the tax. Usually, though, I've paid a lot less through the book club. Some people say the book is not the full version but I've read the same book from the library and one I've bought from the club and there was no difference. Maybe the one from e-bay was signed by the author or something. What is the difference in a book bought at a bookstore and a book bought from a book club?
I am guessing that if it wasnt in a book club then it means it has been used less. If in a book club then it was probably used a lot. Less damage on the store book probably.
one comes can come in the mail and the other will cost you gas to go too.
Sorry cost is not the only thing.
A book from a book club is done on cheaper paper the cover is cheaper if you look inside the spine you'll find their is no cloth on the binding. This last fact has changed in about the last 10 years book clubs are now coming with the cloth. Then sometimes they are smaller. It's all geared to making a book cheaper to mail. Most of the time you can tell a book club because it has no price on the front flap of the dust jacket. Other times there is what book sellers call a blind stamp on the back board of the book, remove the dust jacket and there might be a little square, or leaf at the base of the spine.
Generally book clubs are worth about .99 cents. Where as the first edition could be worth nothing or if you like Stephen King $5,000. A good site to compare book prices is Abe books or Book Finder.
Hope this helps.
There is not difference in the content of the books. The book club version will usually be slightly smaller than the store version. You can get discounts with book clubs, but you should really look for one that offers at least five free books to sign up and is only asking you to buy three or four books in a minimum of two years. This way you can get 8 books for the price of 2 - 3 in a store (plus shipping).
The book club ones are cheaper, but it is difficult to stop a torrent of unwanted books arriving at your door, once you've joined the book club.
If you're buying a second hand book for its content, that doesn't matter.
There are actually physical differences in the editions. Book club editions are cheaply made and smaller in size. The dust covers generally have no foil or embossed lettering like regular editions do. The text is the same and the ISBN is also the same, which is confusing to booksellers when someone tries to return book club editions to the store! (incidentally, don't try this as they cannot be returned to retail stores)
