If you're thinking of joining a book club because you think you'll get a great deal on books, then don't. Most of them try to entice you to join by offering introductory books at a very low price but you'll end up making up for it by paying more for the rest of the books you are required to buy and by having to pay for the books that they automatically ship you when you forget to send back the form telling them you don't want it. Also, a lot of the book club books are printed in special book club editions which often are paperback when the original was hardcover and almost always on an inferior quality of paper. In the end you'll have a much nicer and no more expensive collection of books if you buy them in another way.
A lot of retail bookstores have clubs that you can join, for a small fee, which will entitle you to 10-15% off the price of all of their books, this is okay, but only if always remember to use the card and you'll buy enough books to make back your original fee. Another great source of kids books is your local warehouse store (Costco, Sams Club, etc.). They usually have most of the recent bestselling kids books and some classics for 30-50% off the cover price. If you want to shop online, Amazon.com discounts almost all of their books and offer free shipping when you spend $25.
If you aren't hung up on the books being brand new you can find all kinds of wonderful children's books, some of them no longer available new, at used books stores, charity book sales and garage sales for next to nothing. Make sure you page through the books to make sure there aren't any ripped or missing pages before buying. My daughter has a huge collection of books that we've bought mostly this way over the years, all of them in like-new condition and rarely for more than $1.
Hope that helps. Cheers.
