Make readers theater out of good parts.
Book-a-roni Pizza -- construction paper cut into a circle. Make a collage about the book one one side. Tell about your favorite part on the back.

You can read the Harry Potter series. You can sort the kids into houses (Gryphindor, Slytheirn, Revenclaw, etc.) and award points. In the end of the year you can have a big celebration and anounce who wins the house cup. Things you can do with harry potter are so limitless. You can watch the movies, draw the characters and creatures, dress up as wizards and witches, make pumpkin juice and chocolate frogs, you can play outdoor "quidditch", etc.
If you get to the fourth book you can have a triwizard tournament!!!!

Can an employer force unwork related book club upon employees?
A local employer that is a auto dealership. Is making their male employees read a book about football. Then, every week they must talk about what they read in a sort of "book report". Is this legal?? The owner is not taking "NO" for an answer with employers and keeps calling them into his office on why they are not participating.Can an employer force unwork related book club upon employees?

What should I serve at book club?
I'm hosting book club for 7-10 woman at the end of January. We read Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler. It's nice to have a few appetizers sitting out that don't need to be kept hot and won't go bad after 2 hours. I love to cook and would like something more unique than artichoke dip :) Also, any drink suggestions (I'm pregnant as is one other member, but the others love an alcoholic drink).What should I serve at book club?
From what you said, you like to cook and you want something unusual. Probably not a cheese tray. Here are some great appetizers I've fixed and love. Something sweet and something salty! I would just pick up red and white wine to go with it. Have fun!
1. Goug猫res -- the best cheese puffs you've ever tasted. Goug猫res are best served warm, so pipe them at the last minute and bake them just before your guests arrive. They're also good at room temp.
2. Goat Cheese, Roasted Pepper and Basil Appetizers --The combination of marinated goat cheese, roasted peppers and fresh basil is perfect in its simplicity. Served on baguettes.
3. Ginger-Mascarpone Icebox Cake - make this the day before - it's a cheesecake with an unusual twist. The ginger will be good for the pregnant women - good for nauseous
It is always nice to see veggie trays along with finger sandwiches. Those are pretty standard.
But you can also cut up cheese or set up a nice cheese tray with diffrent types of cheeses and maybe some meat.
Arrange crackers/bread on another platter this will look nice as well.

Since 7th graders get a big amount of homework and the moms and girls would only have a month to read the book it would need to be around 200 pages. I read them when I was that age and still read her stories in highschool. They only have around 200 or 300 pages but the books are small in size. The ones I like the most are Stranger With My Face, Down A Dark Hall, and Dont look behind You.
Oh My Gods And Goddess Boot Camp by Tara Lynn Childs. Its Currently a two book series and is about the ancient greek gods. The Main Character is 18 but its not bad for younger audiences. I checked on amazon and Oh My Gods is grades 7 and up. Goddess Boot Camp is grades 9 and up mainly because there is kissing and boyfriend girlfriend related stuff, but i am pretty sure (99.9%) that it has no innapropriate s things even mentioned. (pages 288 and 272)
Also by Tara Lynn Childs is Forgive My Fins. Its rated grades 6-10. Its a cute romance about A mermaid who comes to live on land with her aunt (her mother a human, father a merman) and finds someone to bond with, the only problem being that she needs to get him to realize that he loves her. But then something big goes wrong, well i dont want to spoil the story but this book is amazing..(pages 304)

Uglies, Pretties, Specials, Extras By Scott Westerfield. Their are 4 books in this series know as the Uglies Series. Its a SciFi about a Girl named Tally. In this world, everyone is Pretty, and no one is normal. Everyone gets the operation when they turn 16. Tallys best friend has the operation 3 months before her, and while they are apart, Tally meets a new friend Shay who turns pretty the same day as her. But the day before their operation, Shay goes missing, and its Tallys job to find her or she will never get the operation, which shes been dreaming about her whole life. Its set far in the future, with hover boards and everything. The books are a little longer than 200-300 but they are very good and if you ever get the chace your book club should read them.
The Secret Under My Skin by Janet McNaughton is another great scifi. Its is about a future where environmental conditions are dire. Everyone struggles to survive throught it all. Blay is the main character of this story. She cant remember where she is from or anything about her parents. She was taken from her parents when she was just a baby. She was taken in by a older girl living on the streets and lived with her until she was around 7 or 10. She struggles on the streets until she arrives at a work camp. My review isnt very good%26lt; i havent read this story in a while and cant remember everything. (pages 351 but its smaller in size.)
Runaway by Wendelin Van Draanen. Its the journal of a young girl Holly, a foster child. Although it doesnt say it, I believe she just wants to fit in a school but she has always been made fun of for as long as she can remember. Its a very hard book for me to review, but its a great book. "Hollys run away before, but this time she actually gets away-and what feels like an escape at first soon becomes a daily struggle for survival. She is smart and resourceful, and manages to make it all the way across the country on her own. But how long can this go on? It getting Harder and Harder to avoid the truth-Holly is now homeless.

I live in a big apartment complex, I've lived here nearly a year and I'd really like to meet my neighbors and make some friends. Does anyone have any suggestions?

One of the best ways to get to know your neighbors is to bring over something that has been baked. Tell them that you have leftovers and that you cannot eat it all. Do it a couple of times and that will open doors quickly.
Always greet them with a smile and sincerity. Let them know that you are interested in their lives. Assist them when you see an opportunity.

It depends on the education of your neighbors.
I personally would be bored by a book club because I work so much, I really dont have the opportunity to read anything other than the competency materials I have to study to keep my job.
I would be more inclined to show up if you invited me over for hordeurvs and drinks or maybe invite me over to watch a movie or just to try some authentic cuisine such as indian food or mexican. Maybe have a neighborhood party and invite everyone to come over at say 9 PM and BYOB and I bet you get guests.
I think a community pitch in or cook out would be more effective. You could hook up with the property management and involve them in it. They could help plan other activities to go with it as well.

I am interested in starting a book/poetry club to discuss good books/poems, to meet new people, and have outings maybe once every 3 months. (Ranging from a day at the spa to eating out). I was thinking that maybe once a month each person could contribute $20-25 for the book club savings fund for when we do go out. Is this a reasonable idea or do anybody else have a better suggestion(s)?Can anybody give pointers on starting a book club?

I just heard about paperbackswap.com. You only pay for books that someone else wants from you, it is not a book club because they want you to list books to swap but it can get you some books for no cost.

We each have a "twilight name" where we are each a character from the book, and whenever we are in the club meeting we adress eachother by that name. You could do trivia and quizzes and like compete with a Team Edward and a Team Jacob. Also you could do something for Halloween (costumes maybe). Character discussions would be cool.
