What exciting thing can ppl do in book clubs besides reading.?

I am starting a book club on September 16 of this year, but I have no idea of what we can do besides read.Pleeze help! What exciting thing can ppl do in book clubs besides reading.?
There's all kinds of book-related activities you can do during a book club. For instance:

1.) Pick a literary theme or idea (like symbolism, names, places, etc.) and track them through the book. It helps you understand the story better.

2.) Have every member pick their favorite minor character and write a mini saga (1-2 pages) just about them.

3.) Take a major place or culture from the story and research it (i.e. if it's a book about France, study French culture and make some French recipes).

4.) Have a costume contest for your favorite characters. (You have to be open-minded about this one.)

5.) Take turns reading out loud, with dramatic overtones. In other words, assign roles and a narrator and read it like it's a play.

Hope I helped! Happy reading!
Integration:

1. Rather than merely asking what others thought of the story, ask what the characters thought of issues not directly involving their character. Assign, in part, scenes/scenarios drawn upon from the novel to be interpreted from the view, not already explicit in the story, of one of the book's characters.

2. Rather than attending a book club, attend the book! Depending upon the number of club members, book characters, and devotees, assign and dress up as the characters (preferably without duplicating roles), or even singularly to test the waters. While this can be an intriguing way to delve into stories of other times and places, costumes may also be accomplished with characters based on current times and situations by paying close attention to depicting information in the book aided with identifiable markers, if not the less subtle character name tags. It need not be that all participate in the same way and book club members along with new initiates should be welcomed to attend as themselves to mingle with those in character either as the character or themselves.

As your book club develops over time, feel free to revisit past characters (even re-reads depending on members) and let your stories mingle! Avoid rigidity due to strict reading assignments, remember what we do when we read novels; answer the invitation of our imagination. Let bashfulness play no role so that you may, in kind, invite your guests. What exciting thing can ppl do in book clubs besides reading.?
Well usually in book clubs people read during the week and then meet to discuss the book and just chill.

You can probably dust off a few board games and get a food platter of course.

maybe watch some movies afterwards and whatnot.
Everyone brings a different food, watch a movie related to the book, and try writing a story together. One person writes the beginning, one person the next, etc. That'll be fun! What exciting thing can ppl do in book clubs besides reading.?
Talk about what you've read -- that's the biggest reason people join book clubs.

You might also all participate in a service activity together or something like that.
Lightly hold a book in both hands, and blow through the pages from the top of the book to the bottom.

It sounds just like an elephant.

And that is about as exciting as it is going to get!

lol
Maybe you would like to take a leadership initiative and ask everyone what they would like to do in the club. And of course have a list of different things to present. Reading is great, but speaking to a group about your readings is even better. The group could always practice their presentation skills by taking the stand to talk about what they read. Just an idea.
so you read the book, then discuss it, watch the movie version if ppl want to (and compare it to the book)

then, if the author is going to be near town you could go see him/her. make sure u have snacks for the meetings, that motivates ppl. i'd suggest just asking the book group when u first meet what else they'd like to do, and have them recommend books to read. id recommend grapes of wrath and travels with charley (both by steinbeck) they're great for discussion. good luck!!
how about a character dinner? members of the book club are assigned different characters from books you've read in the past (or they can be a character from their favorite book). they must dress, speak and generally behave "in character" the entire evening. if you want to make it extra interesting, have everyone suggest one character from a book, then draw out of a hat! go out to a restaurant.

my friends and i did this once and we ended up with a vampire, one zombie, jordan baker (of the great gatsby), mr. darcy of pride and predjudice and a geisha. we went out to dinner and it was a ton of fun.

OR

you could have a 'food from books' night. have each person prepare a covered dish based on a book. some great food in books: alice in wonderland, five quarters of an orange, chocolate, the time travelers wife to name a few. here's a site: http://nancykeane.com/rl/213.htm

have fun!!
Compare it to other books. Start off with a theme - and have the books you select reflect that theme. Then, as you read them it will encourage interesting discussion comparing them.

Write your own epilogue ... Have the group come up with ideas for what happens next. Pax - C
Well you could make up a story!!Yay!
watch the movie version of the book

add some margaritas

have cookies and have everyone bring something in

have a part where you all listen to a CD and talk about it

if not the booze always works
